Update Oct 2013 - I'm so glad I bought this juicer! Still using all the original parts, nothing is broken. I've kept the mesh filter basket clean and it works great, but it is puckering at the top edge of the basket, between the spots where it's welded to the basket frame. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the juicer, but it requires more diligent cleaning.

I have a new tip today about juicing spinach leaves. Stack spinach leaves about 2-3" tall and place on a large kale leaf. Wrap the kale leaf around the spinach and stuff into the feed chute. Slowly push the kale/spinach "package" down the chute. Small spinach leaves won't fly out the food chute or end up whole in the pulp collection bin. This works great with collard greens too!

Update Apr 2013 - Still juicing! I make about a quart of green juice a day. The shredding disc and steel mesh were showing signs of staining and minor clogging. The residue wouldn't come off with hand-washing, so I decided to try some serious cleansing using a spray-on oven cleaner. Bingo! All the residue came off easily, opening all the clogged mesh holes and rejuvenating the shredding disc. None of the original parts have broken or cracked. I remain very satisfied with this juicer.

Update Dec 2012 - The Breville Compact Juice Fountain works like new after 11 months of daily use! There have been no issues with the motor. The plastic parts have held up well but are veggie-stained. The shredding disc isn't as sharp as it was on Day 1, but it still works great. When the time comes, Breville sells replacement parts online.

Update June 2012 - Still using the Breville twice daily and it continues to work well. No broken parts.

This is my third juicing machine. My first was a Champion which served without problems for years. On the plus side it was powerful and durable. On the down side it was rather noisy, vibrated a lot and left a lot of juice in the pulp and was hard to clean. My second juicer was the omega screw machine which I still have. I bought it because it also did wheat grass. On the plus side it is quiet and juices anything, makes nut butter and extracts a lot of juice leaving very dry pulp. On the down side it is slow and worst of all the feed tube is really small. You have to do a lot of cutting to get things small enough to get into the feed tube. I pretty much only use it for wheatgrass now. The Breville is the best juicer I have had. It is an example of good product design in that it is simple, practical and attractive. It is powerful, has a feed tube large enough to take large whole carrots, beets and small apples. It is quiet, comes apart easy and cleans up quickly. The capture pitcher which nests into the machine has a nice cover so you can store the juice for later. If making juice is a hassle you're going to put off doing it. This juicer makes juicing easy and not a hassle.

Just like a lot of you I just had to try juicing because of Fat Sick and Nearly Dead documentary. I absolutely fell in love with this movie, as well as the narrator. He was so inspiring, I just had to try. When I was about 10 or 12 I fell onto this kick of being a vegetarian, and well lets just say it stuck for about 12 years. My parents purchased me a juice man juicer for Christmas because of an infomercial I always watched, well it was not as easy as it was on TV. Therefor I only juiced about 5 mts and put it back in the box, never to be taken out again. It was just a pain. I happen to run across this guy on Craigslist for 50.00 bucks and thought why not, I really need to get back to juicing, or at least try it again. I just finished my first round of juice and here is what I think about it.

Pros
- You get a lot of juice out of the produce that you use
- Easy to use
- EFFORTLESSLY CLEAN UP ( I love it )
- Not much cutting involved, well none at all really. Just remember to extract the large seeds from the fruit and you should be fine.
- Easy to take apart, and put back together
- Use a produce bag to put in the back bin for even easier clean up.
- Not as loud as everyone makes it out to be
- Does not move while motor is spinning
- Safety features so you won't accidentally chop off your fingers. Always a plus

Cons
- When you place the produce in the machine, sometimes it comes back up because of how fast the motor is spinning ( maybe someone could tell me how to not let this happen )
-Again when I put produce down into the machine it sometimes splatters out the side and from the top.

The Breville JE98XL was our replacement to our decade old Jack Lalanne Juicer. Wow, what a difference. If I had known what I was missing I would have made the switch a long time ago. We get a lot more juice out of our fruits and veggies with the Breville than with the Jack Lalanne. I can only imagine how much money was wasted over the years by not getting everything out of our produce. The Breville also makes quick work of juicing. Before, it was a major event to create enough juice for my family. Now it takes minutes. Clean up is super easy as well. And with the fitted juice catcher, no more mess to clean up like with the Jack Lalanne.

One more comment on all those downers who gripe about high revolutions killing the enzymes. Yes it is true, but to a very small degree. And the time I save with the Breville is well worth the small faction of enzymes I may lose.

I have been juicing for over a decade and this is the best machine I have used. I am once again excited about juicing, thank you Breville!

So I've owned a Breville Juicer before but it was the taller kind, not this single-auger masticating juicer. I use this EVERY day, often more than once. I have a herditary condition that causes problems with my digestive tract and there is no way I could get all those healthy fruits and veggies down without my juicer.

I stick cucumbers, carrots, spinach, lettuce, bok choy, mint, celery, kale, apples, citrus(peeled or it tastes bitter) and probably several other things that I can't think right off hand. I do cut the apples into eighths or sixths. Most everything else just gets crammed in there. If there a jam, hit the reverse for a couple seconds then keep on going. I get a very small amount of pulp that is quite dry from it.

I will often then take my green juice and make a smoothie in the blender with frozen fruit(mango, strawberry, blueberries, etc), banana, protein powder and anything else I want to put in. The apple juice(depending on what kind of apples you use, usually sweetens it enough but you can also add fructose or honey or whatever your sweetner of choice is. Protein powder and sometimes a couple tablespoons of blanched almonds makes this a meal which is great for me- no stomach pain!

The big advantage of the masticating juicer is that you don't end up with mushy or stringy stuff lke you might if you threw it all just in a blender.

I wash it right away- before I even go make my smoothie in the blender and it is a snap to clean up- haven't had to scrub it or anything. I leave the parts in the drying rack til next time. I found this easier to clean than Breville's Juice Fountain. Oh, and I did NOT get this free. I paid full price and consider it worth every penny!!

I love this because the kids love smoothies and have no idea they are chowing down on kale and spinach- muahahaha.
